What is this?
Website building means creating websites — for a small business, a personal project, a portfolio, or a client — using beginner-friendly tools called website builders. You do not need to write code to start. The skill is part design, part planning: making a site that is clear, useful and works well on a phone.
How does the money work?
Client websites: Build sites for small businesses or individuals who pay a one-off fee or monthly maintenance.
Service pages: A site that promotes a service you offer (writing, design, tutoring).
Affiliate/content sites: A useful site that earns affiliate commissions or ad revenue over time.
Templates: Create reusable layouts you can sell or reuse for faster client work.
Where do you do this?
Wix
Drag-and-drop builder, beginner friendly, free tier available.
WordPress.com
Popular, flexible, good for blogs and business sites.
Framer (free tier)
Modern builder with nice design control.
Google Sites
Very simple and free for basic pages.
What do you need?
A computer (laptop is ideal).
A free account on a website builder (Wix, WordPress.com or Framer).
A clear idea of what the website is for.
Reference sites you like for inspiration.

Create a free Wix or Framer account and choose a template.
Write the text for Home and About pages.
Add images and arrange the layout.

How long until the first money?
A first small paid client project is possible within weeks if you reach out consistently, but most beginners take 1–3 months to land a first client. Earning from your own content sites usually takes much longer. Nothing is guaranteed.
Some beginners may earn within weeks, while others take months or never reach monetization. Results depend on skill, consistency, demand, platform rules and audience.
How to improve
Study clean, modern sites and copy their layout logic (not their content).
Learn basic design principles: spacing, contrast, alignment.
Get comfortable with one builder deeply before switching.
Build a small portfolio of 3 example sites.
Learn to write clear website copy, not just arrange elements.
Common mistakes
Overcomplicating the design with too many sections.
Ignoring mobile layout.
Using too many fonts and colors.
Not having a clear purpose for the site.
Waiting for 'perfect' before publishing.
Charging too little or too much before having any portfolio.
Stay safe
Watch out for
- Upfront-payment scams — never pay to 'unlock' income.
- Fake job offers or requests for passwords or card details.
- Unrealistic guaranteed income or 'get rich' promises.
- Copied-content or mass-AI schemes that platforms penalize.

What to track
If it's not working
No clients replying? Improve your outreach message — make it about their problem, not you.
Sites look amateur? Reduce clutter and use more whitespace.
Stuck on a builder? Switch to a simpler one and finish a project.
No portfolio? Build 2–3 example sites for imaginary businesses first.
Next step
Pick a builder (Wix or Framer), create a free account, and build a one-page portfolio for yourself this week. Publish it — done beats perfect.

Age and platform requirements
Most website builders allow accounts from age 13–16+, but to accept client payments or use payment processors you usually need to be 18 (or have a parent/guardian manage the account). Always check the platform's terms. If you are underage, involve a parent or guardian for any paid work.
